Jari was a beneficiary of the Leventis Research Co-operation Programme at the Centre of African Studies, University of London, (2003). He joined the academic staff of Ahmadu Bello University in January 1989. He has been a Professor since 2008. Jari has several academic publications in peer-reviewed journals, books and exhibition catalogues. He has exhibited widely and has participated in the initiation of historic art projects in Africa, which have created the forum for the advancement of scholarship in the visual arts. These include being a founding member of The Eye Society and the Aftershave Workshop. Art Mongering, an informal university community gathering each Wednesday at 7 to 8pm, which he initiated in 2004, has continued to provide an informal platform for artistic dialogue among students and staff. He has been curator to major art exhibitions, which have interrogated trends and development of contemporary Nigerian and African art with global implications such as the Accident and Design exhibition held at the Brunei Gallery, London in 2000. He was a student of Gani, later a colleague and very much a dear friend. Jari Jacob is the foremost authority on Gani Odutokun’s art. He was Head of the Department of Fine Art, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 2005 -2007 and Dean, Faculty of Environmental Design of the same university from 2013 - 2015. In recognition of his academic leadership in the visual discipline, Jari was appointed external examiner to many universities including Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda from 2006-2008 and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana from 2010 to date. He has also been a National Universities Commission resource person on postgraduate and undergraduate programmes.

He is founder and artistic director of Badejo Arts, a British-based performance and training company. In Britain since 1990, he has made a dramatic impact on British arts in general. Along with other artistic luminaries, he was an original member of Ola Rotimi’s Ori Olokun Theater in Ile-Ife during the 1960s. There, he developed his natural talents alongside his youthful artistic friends and was later attracted to the Nigerian Center for Cultural Studies in Zaria. NCNS sponsored the furtherance of his training and educational development at the School of Performing Arts in Legon at the University of Ghana, and subsequently at UCLA, where he completed his MA degree in Dance Ethnography. Gani Odutokun was one of his best artistic friends and companion artist. Peter Badejo’s commitment to African performing arts is reflected in his research conducted through the Universities of London, and his time as a Research Fellow at the University of Surrey’s Dance Department. In 2001, he received the Order of the British Empire (OBE), as a recognition of his achievements with the production and notoriety of African Dance and Performance Arts in Britain. On March 22, 2013 at Finsbury Town Hall, London, the Association of Dance of the African Diaspora (ADAD) awarded Peter Badejo with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the development and practice of Dance of the African Diaspora in the UK. In Nigeria, he served as the Dance Director for the Lagos Black Heritage Festival (2012-2015) and as the Artistic Director for the All-Africa Games Festival (2012). His work and reputation as a choreographer and performing artist opened the way for his extraordinary talents to be shared around the globe in Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the Caribbean. In 2017, he was celebrated as a “Platinum Jubilee Honour for a Living Legend and Dance Ambassador” in Nigeria.
